had potential

good idea and there are some funny moments and the last scene and the montage leading up to are excellent but over all the film just seemed far to cruel and I usually like black comedy it wasn't the violent murders that put me off that didn't bother me, it was the two main characters themselves they start of as quite likeable characters then just turn into really horrible dick heads for no reason was anyone else a bit disappointed by this ?

Unfortunately I agree. I was fully prepared to love this movie. Although I did enjoy it overall, I didn't love it. Hated the two main characters by the end. Think all the hype didn't help either.

You are right the main characters are to annoying and unlikable.

Personally, I don't need to "like" film characters. What matters to me is that the characters are: well-acted, well-written, believable, at least somewhat interesting, and/or entertaining. I think Chris and Tina are pretty much all of these things. They also had some lines and line deliveries which were comedic gold.

And, lol, Chris and Tina are psychopath serial killers, how "likeable" could they really be??

I know, that makes me laugh. I suppose the above posts are fans of Dexter, your cute serial killer with the winning smile... ;)

True romance, natural born killers, bonnie and clyde, badlands....

I think the movie was ok, not that great, but ok.

I also agree with the original poster that the characters lacked something. they were likable (or at least relatable) and somewhat believable in the beginning, but then they just turn into psycho killers and general dickheads. I would've liked to see a proper descent into madness, or some explanation why they become serial killers.

but yeah, the movie was entertaining.

reply

Tina was indeed too annoying to be interesting or entertaining. I wanted her and the actress that played her to die horribly.

Same here.

Beautiful looking movie, which made up for the extreme gore & ugly main characters.

It was a flawed masterpiece of British comedy.

So many things that could have been great but weren't, but the film was still fun and I could see myself re-watching it.

Just finished watching the film, been meaning to watch it for some time since I enjoyed the trailers for the film. Thing is, the trailers were pretty good but the only decent parts were in the trailer. Seen two Ben Wheatley films now (Sightseers and Kill List), both films left me feeling bored, personally find him incredibly overrated, critics seem to love him, only reason I can see is his "dark" vision. Thing is, it's good to be dark but I find his vision goes beyond that to a point of revulsion or bitterness, personally, that's the problem I had with both the main characters and the film in general.

I disagree with the OP and everyone who has chimed in to agree.
This movie was great!

I found them to be unlikable from the beginning, but I don't need to like the main characters to enjoy a film. It was a lot of fun having everything from their perspective. The reasons behind their dick-headedness is unimportant.

We've met before, haven't we?
