Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Anyone else notice how at one point a song goes 'season of the witch...' and then electronic sounds followed by dark synths follow which are both almost exactly the same as the ones in Halloween III, I enjoyed that reference!

reply

That recording predates Halloween.

reply

Yeah, my point was that it was immediately followed by sounds right out of Halloween III, suggesting that the director is a fan.

reply

I noticed that too! Nice touch.

I caught the musical cues, but there is another item to consider: the scenery. Halloween III is based around the druids and sacrifices, which were purported to have taken place in the many stone circles that dot England. The stone circles are where many of the murders take place in this movie, fittingly, including that scene and another.

The inclusion of leylines is also fitting, as the myths state leylines (global connections of power that intersect to form locations of strong mystical power) line up with the locations of stone circles, such as Stone Henge. Halloween III is about that mystical power that comes with human sacrifices and the stones from a circle, and also relates to the sun and seasons, and we can note the sun is featured prominently in the Season of the Witch scene. It's all connected.

I'd say the whole sequence of titular music, murder, chicken sacrifice and leylines is a very, very strong reference to Halloween III. The director's earlier movies have also touched on similar themes.

Hey there - nice catch! I noticed the ley lines comment, but didn't connect it to the standing stones and druids. As an aside, I love Halloween III, even though I find it cheesy. It scared the crap out of me as a child, particularly the scene where the Midwestern family's son's face turns to bugs inside the mask.

I enjoyed Sightseers quite a bit, it reminds me of Edgar Wright's work, but taken to a dark extreme. Kill List was great too, though A Field In England was a bit avant garde/psychedelic for my tastes.

Yeah.

I always thought Halloween 3 was quite entertaining. Offbeat plot, to be sure. Filmmakers should have used a different title - I think the biggest strike against the film is its title, combined with a lack of Michael Meyers.

I've always liked Halloween III, and the Scream Factory Blu-ray pretty much brought a tear to my eye with its special features haha, glad the director is finally getting his due.

Well Halloween was initially not supposed to be about just Michael though. Each part of the franchise was supposed to be it's own movie with the central theme being the holiday itself. Unfortunately they reused Michael in part 2. So when they decided to continue with the original plan to make an anthology series with part 3 people got confused.

Honestly Season Of The Witch is my favorite part aside from the first one. Didn't really care for 2 in fact.

Apart from the first Halloween of course, is Halloween 3 is my second favourite of the series.

reply

Yes I noticed that too! I've always really liked Halloween 3, in my eyes the second best Halloween film.
