I thought things only started to get interesting/funny when Sun Wukong showed up...and the battle scenes were great. Ended abit abruptly too.
Most of the humor were weak and lame; he keeps using perverse and gross elements to try and draw laughs. He really needed Ng Man Tat and Lee Lik Chi to attain the high standard of humor in his older films.
Err, I think nostalgia (or selective viewing?) may have clouded your mind as to the absolutely "perverse and gross" kind of humour that Ng Man Tat and Lee Lik Chi got up to....
And extremely "weak/lame" characters with "weak/lame" jokes are precisely the "rare flora" that people expect from Stephen Chow films.... there is usually a maximum of only ONE completely normal character in each of his films.
I'm saying that I'd kill without batting an eyelid-- and you're asking if my eyes got dry?
