Sequel?

I understand that it's a very big hit in China, but I don't know how things work over there. If it were the States, there would already be talk of a sequel.

So, is there any talk?

Rogue: You don't know, or you don't care?
Logan: Pick one.

Good luck with sequel. Stephen Chow is forcing everyone to act like him so basically pissing off lot of them. Wen Zhang and Huang Bo definitely wont return.

"Good luck with sequel. Stephen Chow is forcing everyone to act like him... "

Quote for truth.

I don't care how he makes his actors act. I liked the movie and it was a commercial success. I just want to know if a sequel is even in the cards.

Well lets consider what we do know. Stephen Chow now comes out with a new movie every 3-5 years and is taking longer as he gets older. All the movies he directed has never gotten a direct sequel. He wrapped up all the storylines for his characters and said what he wanted to say in this film. Journey to the West has already been adapted an abundant amount of times in recent memory. Supposedly, some of the actors were not happy working with him.

I doubt there's going to be one.

But the ending obviously sets up a continuation of the story.

We know there's a continuation to the story but the ending in the movie leaves nothing left to explore. All the demons were subdued and are now gonna obediently follow Tripitaka on his journey. It also doesn't help that Pigsy and Sandy were hardly even characters in the first movie.

I don't know, I just think it be very difficult.

You see this film too shallow.

In the end the fish monster, the pig monster and the monkey monster's faces are still the same. These beasts are not conquered at all.

The title Conquering the Demons means that the Tripitaka conquers his heart, not those monsters. Clearly the end hints a sequel and Stephen Chow confirms that he wants to make sequels.

But I cannot guarantee that there's going to be a sequel. Stephen Chow always says that there's going to be sequels, but none of them have ever come true.

I received word that there is indeed a sequel in the works and this time, he will appear as an actor in some capacity.

People have been wanting a sequel for Kung Fu Hustle since it came out and rumors have gone back and forth since then. Unless you see it in theaters, I wouldn't believe anything you see. His track record though is to not make sequels.

Wouldn't the problem there be that the guy playing Monkey would be the centre of such a movie and i don't think the actor they chose for monkey could carry it off.

And if anyone hasn't already please watch Stephen chows double movies 'A Chinese odyssey' the funniest movies i have ever seen honestly and based on the same stories. Really wish Stephen would start acting in stuff again and with Man Tat Ng by his side, they were amazing together. Though from most accounts thats not going to happen. Pity that his last acting gig was the one Stephen Chow movie i didnt like CJ7.
