anyone else feel Duan was a bitch?

I mean, she was constantly doing such heinous acts just to get some demon hunting cock from Tang Sanzang. She got her group of friends to pose as a group of demon hunters who kill, demon hunters to force Sanzang to bang her, ripped up his book, hitted him, and magically forced a ring to his finger! She just come across as a big bitch throughout to me and I don't understand how Tang Sanzang can fall for her other than the fact that she's attractive. Anyone agree with me?

I think you missed the point. Duan's role was intended to tempt and obstruct Tang's journey.

A lie becomes the truth then it becomes a lie again.

I know, but Tang seems to love her from beginning to end without ever thinking to himself "Man, she's kind of a bitch!" I understand why he'd be attracted to her PHYSICALLY but I have no idea as to why anyone would fall for her emotionally.

I am not sure I would agree with that reading of the narrative. The role of Duan was for Xuanzang to realize the harmony between the lesser and greater loves. Xuanzang thinks he acting virtuous by only recognizing the universal love of humankind. In the face of Duan's death for him, Xuanzang can no longer deny the power of the lesser love. What the Buddha has to teach him is that the truth is found in the harmony between the lesser and the great loves.

I am not very knowledgeable on Eastern philosophy, but I and my Hegelianism loved this message at the end of the film. It was a perfect culmination of the themes built up throughout the film.

No i dont agree she was in love with him and was trying to get his attention in the only way she knew how.

She asked him to help her save face and he ignored her so she ripped the book, the ring she took off as soon as she noticed that he really did not want to say he loved her until she died then it is to late.

Agreed with Howlinghat. She was trying to get his attention the only way she knew how. Pretty sad story this one, never felt so after Chow's movies, because they usually got a happy ending:)

Makes you wonder what she ever saw in him in the first place.

She was bi-polar!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

That was her way of wooing the man she loved.
