Did I see that same movie as most of you?

I thought this film had a very good start, very Chow feel like KFH. In my opinion after the first fight with the Hog Demon the film lost what made Hustle a delight to watch. The story veered off and started introducing characters that had no purpose for the rest of the movie (Miss Duan's group). The humor became too sporadic although yes, still funny at times. The random appearance of the other demon hunters whom I though were going to be part of a bada$$ fight ended up being bust, with the exception of the Important Prince and his ability which did not last long. The ending....what was that? The fights were no were near the epicness of Chows other works. Also it was just a rushed ending and it felt like it set up the real movie (sequel?) Maybe I had too much of Chows other work on my mind when I saw this but I was disappoint, very disappoint. Sorry but I give 5/10. First half was Chow, second half...dunno.

Ok, seriously did I watch a hacked up version because I just read the IGN reveiw of the movie and it stated the ending fight is like a blend of Dragon ball Z and Looney Toons. The were literally no fists flying. The animal dude charged the Monkey King and was immediately shredded, the foot demon hunter did one swing of his foot then went to stomp on the Monkey King which lead to MK putting a hole in his foot and that was it. The Prince had most of the action. The main character did not fight at all. He obtained enlightenment and MK fought a Buddha statue for 30sec or so and crumbled it. Then the giant Buddha palm = end. Confused.

The ending fight with Giant Budha and Monkey King is a rip off from Asura's Wrath, check it in youtube: Asura X Wyzen. Rhe scene is let's say "very similar", but with different outcome :)

I'm with you. I wanted to like it since Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle are among my favorites, but this was garbage. My biggest complaint was the CG on steroids. I can appreciate a movie with CGI, but they went overboard here. Not only that, while some of it looked cool, there were other shots that looked so fake/cheesy, that it would have never passed with an American studio. My thought watching this was, I guess this is not Weta or ILM doing the VFX, but some Chinese company. I can't believe the 9s and 10s given this movie.

It's actually a Korean company called Macrograph that did the visual effects for the film. But I agree, the CGI, even for Chinese movie standards, were piss poor. Kung Fu Hustle has been out for ten years now and yet, the special effects in that looked ten times better than the majority of the effects in this film.

Check out the RT score. 94%!!! Far and away the worst movie I've ever seen that cracked 90%

Death to shakeycam directors!

Unlike Shaolin Soccer and especially unlike Kungfu Hustle, this movie draws a lot on the source material (book). So in that way it is a bit less universal in its appeal, and more snobbish.

Not knowing the backstory for this is the reason it seems too wacky and many things look like they have no purpose.

I imagine that for the Chinese audiences this is probably a very different experience, because the book is well known.

I liked this one very much.

Yeah as a Westerner I know very little about the Buddha back-story (although still more than your average American) and a LOT of the characters seemed out of place or force-fed. And the CGI was terrible, which is sad because I felt that Kung Fu Hustle used CGI pretty much perfectly.

I completely agree with the original poster.

First quarter of so of the film was a blast.. then it started going off track.. got weird.. not a lot of action.. hit or miss humor.

I had much higher expectations..
