Underrated - It's well-made, original, funny-sad, absurd & poetic - 8/10

It's beautifully made on a low budget and has impressive period production values.

Actually, if you wouldn't know the budget, you'd say: "This cost at least $ 30 mill. and was shot in Hollywood." It looks that good.

The filmmaking has a classical, fluid, widescreen Hollywood style (not Romanian New Wave naturalism).

It's like Billy Wilder's late comedies.


The movie deals with an unknown part of European history in an amusing screwball-comedy form.

Good cast and performances by all, especially Farmiga and Strong.


There are minor flaws in the writing, when Caranfil is too conventional, but most scenes are fresh and inspired.


Check it out on DVD, it's worth seeing.
