I liked this movie because it took longer thinking about it after I'd seen it, than actually watching it.
It is obvious that Walter is denying himself a real life, that is until his "ghost/subconcious" alter ego makes him aware of himself, and his lack of life that he is not just an automaton, ticket taker. He is trying not to think about his dead father Jim, but he can't help seeing him in all the scenarios of his life with his Dad. He does see his dad with the nurse, who loves him too,
They're watching The Demented 2013 scene 6 at 40:35 into the movie. It isn't in the credits, obvious they're not watching a French classic film. Listen to the dialogue and you can get it's a zombie type movie, and technically the creatures downstairs aren't zombies in the movie Walter and the girl are watching.
