Reasons I HATE this movie

Before some of you accuse me of trolling, here's my reasons why I do not think this movie is THAT good, and do not understand the high praise. SPOILERS AHEAD! You have been warned.

- Thin character development. We get to know a bit about Star-Lord, but we only get about two minutes of back story. A child is sitting in the hospital and listens to some music, his mother dies and leaves him a present, kid runs outside and is taken away...okay! Not much there...

Why should I care about Star Lord? He seems pretty chilled out for someone who had a "tragic" childhood... Gamora is by far one of THE most pointless characters in a movie. For girl who is supposed to kick-ass, she gets saved by Star Lord twice... Black Widow did more than she did in "The Winter Soldier", Gamora makes Cinderella look like a feminist icon!

Drax, all he says is "I want to kill Ronan because he killed my family", we get no further emphasis on this, and then Ronan replies "I don't remember killing your family, I won't remember killing you as well". Screen-writing at its least laziest am I right? Ugghh...

Then there's Ronan, one of the least memorable villains in a while. And he's also the most dumb, he gets distracted by Star Lord dancing in front of him, why don't you just kill him?!? Imagine if some soldier during WWII decided to distract Hitler by dancing in front of him...Hitler would just shoot the guy, because he is not stupid.

Plus, the plot was predictable and lacked suspense, none of the heroes seemed to show any struggle or panic, so I could not care for any of them as their constant joking about made them seem like they had it in the bag.

I know I'm nitpicking, but I was as respectful as possible, I'm not expecting you to agree with me, but all I'm going to say is; if you love this movie, I won't hold that against you, I would just like it if I could express my opinion without people accusing me of having bad-taste.

I just wish they didn't choose a raccoon. But maybe something more badass or odd. But then again, this is an odd thing to wish or obsess over

reply

Well considering that is the character from the comics and has been the character since he debuted in the comics 40 years ago, I don't know what your point is.

reply

"I won't remember killing you as well"

If you're going to critique the dialogue, at least quote the lines correctly.

"I doubt i'll remember killing you either."

reply

I fully agree with you. I am unable to understand why people like this movie!

reply

Glad to see I'm not alone. I'm fine with people liking it, just not "the greatest film" they're saying it is.

I like my films to have an original soundtrack. It makes a more fulfilling piece of entertainment.

yeah i also hate that hack tarantino for doing it in his movies.

reply

While I do respect your opinion, despite not agreeing with it, what exactly were you expecting when you went to see this?

I'm just curious, because I went in expecting something mediocre or bad, but I was completely surprised about how much I loved this film. Perhaps your expectations were too high? But then that wouldn't make much sense considering the trailers made it pretty clear what kind of movie this was going to be.

It's so in vogue these days to hate popular films. Your subject heading is why you HATE this film, and yet you admit in the first sentence that it's merely "not that good".

Not that good = HATE?

And then you go on to list the 4 or 5 minor demerits that anyone can find in ANY film (flaws you probably happily jotted down in the theater), and immediately start describing to everyone who'll listen how much you HATE this unforgivably imperfect film.

Just expressing my opinion of people with your opinion:)

No Hitler wouldn't. Hitler never personally killed anyone. (He has that in common with Charles Manson.) Hitler set up a system for others to kill people, not for he, himself, to personally kill someone. (If Hitler had wanted to get blood on his shiny boots, he could have very easily done so. It tells you something about Hitler that he never once did the killing himself.)

Hitler would have called his guards or ordered someone else to shoot him. But Hitler would not have shot the dancer himself.

Bad example.

"Hitler never personally killed anyone."

Hitler was a solider in WWI. It's very possible he killed people.

reply

Absolutely no evidence of that. Nor did Hitler ever mention even the possibility in his book.

This film was awful. I was bored and irritated the entire time I was watching it. non-exisitent character development. Boring action scenes just strung together to fill time. A soundtrack that made me want to gouge out my ears with a fork. Oh and a plot that just didnt make any sense.

Worst movie Ive seen in years....

You're a bitter person.

I think this film simply wasn't accessible to people who don't read the comics. I have been able to follow all the other movies. And this one actually looks like it would be more to my liking since it's more sci fi based and relies on some fun pop culture references. But there are WAY too many characters who are not properly introduced or explained. This is a really wacky universe and there's nontime to absorb who these people are and how the galaxy operates. I have zero idea who Thanos is or why he's so scary. Keeping track of who the other people were and what side they were on was really difficult. I've seen it twice and think it's just a bad script.

My wife (and several of my friends) never read the comic and had no idea who most of the characters were when she saw the movie.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

Gamora, Nebula, Rocket, Peter Quill and Drax are all explained well enough. There is a ton of dialogue that explains exactly who and what Ronin is and the scene between him and Thanos explains that connection well enough as well. There is exposition about Drax and his family, the fact that Gamora was taken by Thanos as a child, tortured and raised as a warrior, and much about the animosity between Gamora and Nebula. Really, for this film, that is what we need to know about these characters and they focus enough time on the core group - either with Peter making direct observations, as with him in the dressing room with Rocket after delousing - or in dialogue/conversation.

And really, what else do we need to know here? The Collector - he collects things. Yes he has a rich history in the comic books that this film doesn't go into but it's not important yet and if his background becomes important I'm sure in future films they will explore that. Who else in the movie needs exposition but the main players? Hell, they even gave John C. Reilley's character motivation and a family when they didn't particularly need to so I really don't understand this particular complaint/critique about this movie...

I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognizes this is a BAD movie! I thought the trailer made it look like total garbage, but my coworkers who's opinions I respect, liked this movie. I can't understand why anyone over the age of 20 would actually like this? Sul-uddin96 I agree with everything you wrote.

reply

Well, cheers for agreeing, but I will admit that sometimes I can be too harsh on this film. It's just...it baffles me as to how thin this film felt, and the high ratings it is getting. I can understand 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (2014) fans, they can like it if they want, but I just didn't like this thing. Oh well, at least 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014) was great!

reply

Dude just shut the f_ck up please. no one cares. you're in the minority. who gives a sh_t what the minority thinks. This movie was great and unique with an awesome soundtrack so deal with it.

Why so defensive?

...then whoa, differences...

He's right about it being a unique movie. People don't seem to see how much heart and soul was put into the movie. The viewer cares for the characters, their fate. Everything about it is unique and makes it the most different movie in the MCU. I don't know why somebody needs to hate it. NO movie ever tells the whole backstory of a character, especially not when there are sequels which are going to go more into detail. Nowadays people want everything catered to them. The main characters in this movie are fleshed out well, that's a fact.
