Dance Off Bro

Uhh that scene was quite cringeworthy

reply

Yeah. That was pushing it.

reply

Yeah, it would have been much better if StarLord would have made a frontal assault on Ronin, because, you know, it worked sooooo well when Drax did the same thing. It isn't like Ronin just swatted Drax away.

It was completely stupid to do something utterly ridiculous to distract Ronin.

reply

It was the perfect thing to do in that situation.

reply

Intelligent people understand that. 

reply

What Peter did works, it fits the character. How Ronin replied did not.

reply

By cringeworthy I'm going to assume you mean funny, witty, and wise.

reply

Pretty sure he just meant cringeworthy.

Frankly I thought that scene was genius. Ronin comes from a grim planet where he was taught to hate everyone and never was taught to have any kind of fun. So when he is about to destroy everyone, and Peter starts dancing, it weirds him out because he's never seen anyone dance before. That and someone doing that when he's about to kill them is shocking to him.

reply

I hated that part, especially since throughout the entire movie they bigged Ronin up as one of the most feared people in the galaxy. Every time they encountered someone and mentioned Ronin, they'd immediately back out and say "Ronin is involved? I want nothing to do with this." It sets Ronin up well, but that's completely taken away when Peter a human comes face to face with one of the most feared guys in the galaxy, in this moment, Peter should be shitting his pants. I get that it's a comedy, but I hate when movies diminish their villains like that and have the protagonist laugh in their face.

Considering Quill's love of music and his arrogance, it makes sense he would come up with a distraction like that. And ultimately, that's all it was. It was a distraction. Ronin couldn't figure out what the hell Quill was doing, which gave Drax and Rocket the opportunity to blast his hammer. If this were a more serious movie, it'd bother me, but it's a goofy space comedy so it worked with the tone.

Simply reading that line makes me chuckle. Add to that naysayer complaints like the OP’s, and I’m cracking up big time! XD

I appreciate this dance off more and more with every viewing. It’s almost like a big F you to ultra serious big showdowns between the good and bad guy in films (no, not just superhero films). And while it’s definitely an amusing and awkward thing to watch, the dance WAS a genuinely convincing and effective way to distract someone like Ronan (his reaction to the whole thing kills me). With that in mind, the dancing did not feel out of place - Star-Lord was being Star-Lord!

Brilliantly funny stuff.

It still surprises me that people sit down to watch a comedy made by a comedic director/writer, staring an actor from a sitcom, and featuring a talking raccoon and a tree that can only say his name and walk away expecting something serious.

Funny movies have funny parts. How is that so difficult to understand?

nobody said it couldn't be funny, it just wasn't executed well.

reply

Personally I think the portrayal of Ronin was cringe worthy. They got that character all wrong.

reply

That is true. and you are entitled to your opinion. Nothing wrong with that. But if you're a fan of the source material you recognize the errors.

Guardians was never a top draw in the comics. Actually the characters in these movies were not members of the original Guardians except Yondu. The original Guardians mostly guested with the Avengers. And I don't believe Ronan ever fought them in the comics for that matter. Someone else may know the answer to that better than I.

Yes Michael Rooker's character.
