Is there any movie with the same atmospheric, very mysterious, dark, grim feeling like Dark Souls? I've seen some very good movies like The Lord of the rings, the seventh seal, Joan D' Arc and some others medieval-type movies. But I'm searching for a movie with some good action and much darker tone.
A 2004 french film called Innocence, maybe? It's sort of this weird etherial semi-magical school for girls (featuring Marion Cotillard) but it's not that good of a story. Dark Souls is that weird mix of fantasy, horror, adventure, sweeping epic, and mythology, and that's sort of hard to come by in traditional filmmaking while STILL having a good story.
Pan's Labyrinth is great. Um...maybe Unbreakable. The City of Lost Children or The Fall might be good views. Brotherhood of the Wolf certainly meshes a LOT of elements into a story (pretty damn good flick).
If you take out the campy humour then I think Evil Dead: Army of Darkness is a worthy shout. There was also a film I saw years ago, it had Rutger Hauer and had that dark medieval tone of Dark Souls though it wasn't fantasy per se.
Can you link it? The only scene I found on youtube was with some guy handcuffed to a steering wheel in a work truck and barely lasted 30 seconds. It looks like some stereotypical action movie.
