Would people like this more if it were a 1970s Italian movie?

Some scenes in this movie felt like they could be straight out of a 60s/70s Mario Bava film. It isn't nearly as good as, say, "Black Sabbath" or "Lisa and the Devil", but the storyline and overall execution reminded me of those kinds of movies. Does anyone else think this would have been better received if it were an Italian horror movie from the 1970s?
