Annoying songs

I'm pleased to not have to hear the same namby pamby voices like one would hear with the original puppets back when I was a kid, but the repetition of whatever song the episode's lesson comes from is so much worse! Please sing the same line over and over until I wish my toddler watched something horrible like Spongebob just so there's no more songs!

See I think the songs/jingles are the benefit of this show. My son loves Caillou (ugh) and they'll cram a lot of different things into the 30 minutes: 2 unrelated episodes and a song and maybe a game. With Daniel Tiger each episode has a single unified theme with 2 stories and a song. They use the same jingle throughout for consistency and it really helps to ram the idea home. It has already helped my son start to try more new foods and with sharing. "You've gotta try new food because it might taste good!" "First you get a turn, and then I'll get it back!" We say these to him and he goes along with it. Because of this show he's finally eating banana, and I didn't even have to freeze it first!

I think Daniel is better than other shows out there. I just hope they keep Mr. Rogers' original focus on emotional intelligence. Nostalgic adults, however, also have to remember that it's being designed for kids who have never seen Mr. Rogers to understand. Toddlers don't kbow what a spin-off is.

My son understands that they have similar characters (most notably the Trolley, he loves that thing) and similar songs. He far and away prefers the original show though. I know Fred Rogers felt that kids are bombarded too much with animation and ads. I think the fact that it's animated is simply a product of the times and budgets, but I think it's pretty true to his focus. SImple concepts portrayed in ways that kids can understand and songs to reinforce and help remember those concepts.

To be honest, I've only seen it once or twice. I did at someone who grew up with Mr. Rogers and was interested in seeing what this show was about. I don't even have kids of my own yet. You're probably right about the animation. Anyway, I think it looks nicer than some other shows. Also, I was reading about Sesame Street and I think their research suggested that kids respond with more interest/attention to something other than live action adults. Of course, when it comes to Sesame Street, that can mean animations and/or muppets. Mr. Rogers, though, was somewhat unique in his ability to hold a child's attention just as himself. (I"m sure the Make Believe segments help.)

On PBS channels where I am, they don't seem to show the original series anymore, so in general, kids in the 2-6-ish age bracket of the show wouldn't necessarily be aware of who Mr. Rogers is. And I think it can work without the context of the original series. Some kids may just see it as another show, especially since it really does not go that far to distinguish itself.

The score in this show is great; I have no idea what you're complaining about, really.

Having just been forced to watch this and Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego! Go! back to back--as a grown man--I'll stand up and say that if you find the score to this show annoying, congratulations, you're not 4. I'll also say that at least every song is different in tune and lyrical content, generally unique to an episode, and positive in its message.

If I compare this to my experience with Diego, for instance, I can't trash talk this show. Go, Diego! Go! will teach your kids songs about how the best way to avoid an alligator attack is to splash water in its face and go "Mas Abajo!" on the back of a hippo to the bottom of the water....
where a croc is definitely not going to have an advantage: let's not even get into going anywhere near hippos.

At least Daniel Tiger is 100% positive and not condescending for children: "Try harder! You can do it!" "Look closer before you ask people questions!" "Safety first!"

It's great toddler material.

If you're looking for something cooler for yourself, move onto something not made with the sole intent of killing adult souls song by song.

Here's the thing. Great shows can be enjoyed by both children and adults. The Muppets for instance. The original Mr. Rogers Neighborhood as well.

This new crop of shows aimed at very young viewers are, in my opinion not good for the children. I don't care if the kids like the shows or not. They also like ice cream, but that doesn't mean it's good for them.

These new kids shows are so dumbed down and inane that I feel it is actually detrimental to the children watching. They need something to challenge them and make them think without being talked "down" to. Kids aren't as stupid as we may think they are.
