Better than NOMB!

The neighborhood of Makebelieve was weird. I hated the puppets as they were so annoying, especially Daniel Striped Tiger and Henretia (MEOW,MEOW...) Pussycat. This new show actually looks really cute and Daniel doesn't have a whiney voice and isn't a complete wimp like in the original. Although this is the original Daniels son, they made this character more confident and outgoing (from the previews that I've seen).

I grew up with Mr. Rogers and love the puppets. I think puppeteering was a first love of his and an essential aspect of his work. But we probably can't expect them to carry that on without him. The new Neighborhood is bright and very clolorful. I like the look more than some other animated shows. At the end of the day, though, it is a lot like other PBS animated shows. I kind of wish they didn't insist on splitting it into two mini-episodes. If kids had the attention span for the original Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street, I'm not sure we need to format everything like a Saturday cartoon. I also liked that it was based on Daniel Tiger, who was always a favorite of mine. Funnily enough, the characters you listed ad annoying are essentially reincarnated here.

I've only seen one or two episodes, so I'm not in the best position to judge. But two main thoughts: I hope they keep some of Mr. Rogers' original focus on emotional intelligence, because that's so imporant and was integral to what he was all about. And I'd like to see "How People Make..." Videos included. That was such a staple of his show and a big part of helping children understand the world surrounding them. As long as they aren't outdated (which some will be), They could even reuse old educational films from the original shows. Little kids watching Daniel in 2012 may never have seen those.
