Your Personal Theories About Characters

Everyone has them. SO share yours here.

My wife and I discuss the show often (as it is our daughter's favorite show by far). Some of our theories are on the adult side, but there are some cleaner ones I'll share.

-Music Man Stan and Teacher Harriet are brother and sister.
You see them together in the background of the theme song and occasionally in other episodes. With such a focused on the otherwise mixed nature of the kingdom's residents, it seems odd for them to pop up together the way they do. Unless they're related

-Prince Tuesday is going to be a great King.
He's a hard worker that's got 4 different jobs, he's level headed, he's a good communicator. He's going to do a great job. He also might be gay but that's neither here nor there.

-Daniel and Miss Elaina are going to end up together.
Super arbitrary but it seems like it could go that way with how they interact and work so well together.

I always thought he's marry Ana.

By the way, which character serves as the troublemaker? Or does everybody get along and everything is just hunky-dory?

reply

I think Grandpa Tiger might be a troublemaker. Who know what stories he can tell about his sea-faring days. Not for little Tiger's ears!!!

Margaret Tiger may grow up to give Daniel the "annoying lil sister" antics.😱

Grandpa on Daniel's father's side or mother's side? Otherwise, I never knew Grandpere was a sailor.

Saying that, I can't believe there isn't a Lady Elaine type character in this series. That's what caused conflicts in the Neighborhood of Make Believe. Either King Friday would make a bad rule, Lady Elaine would cause some kind of trouble when she didn't get her way, and any other conflicts arose from some characters being too curious or eager. Sounds to me like in Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, everybody gets along and there's no problems. Sounds pretty boring.

Not only boring, but not even realistic! I know these shows are aimed at kids, but if the shows are trying to teach kids good lessons, shouldn't they deal with the fact that there are troublemakers and selfish people in the world.

Exactly! That's why Lady Elaine was such an essential character on the old show. When she didn't get her way, she caused trouble and the other neighbors had to find ways of dealing with her, making her realize what she did was wrong, and then undo her bad deed. She wasn't a BAD person, she just did things that were bad. Children will encounter plenty of Lady Elaines in their lives. At school, at work, she represents a big facet of society, and children will need to learn how to deal with people like that in a non-aggressive and non-violent way.

And it's good that the world is not all happy and everybody always gets their way. Everybody shouldn't and cannot get our way 100 percent of the time. This is a critical difference between today and back then re child rearing.

Throughout the series, whenever Grand-père comes to visit, Daniel's dad calls him "dad". Which I understand on a biological level, but "grand-pere" is French for "Grandfather" and he clearly has a French accent...but Daniel's dad doesn't have even the slightest hint of French dialect? Also, even if his mother were American, he would still have at least a little French dialect. It's something that's actually bothered me since the beginning when my twin sisters started watching the show.

reply

Who knows, maybe Daniel's father was born in America

reply

Maybe they should have an episode that teaches what to do about a bully.

reply

why is lady elaine heteronormative here?? Whose idea was that
