I saw an interview with Cameron where he said that for his birthday he went and met with Kubrick, and talked with him, and that even at an advanced age he was still very interested in CGI and all of the latest technologies.

From what Trumbull has said, Kubrick was a bit fan of preserving film elements and maintaining the highest level of image quality on 2001: A Space Odyssey.

So just to venture a guess, I would think Kubrick would be one of the late adopters of film, preferring to shoot on film in the early years, but recognizing digital as the future.

But just as many were pushing to go digital, Kubrick probably would have been pushing to film everything on 65mm or IMAX film stock.

"Mr. Cameron, people should know...how you saved us all, how you raised the bar."

The perfectionist that he was, I suspect he would have liked to be able to do 1 hour+ length takes and being able to put a camera pretty much anywhere.

"What are you, some kind of doomsday machine, boy?"

I feel like he would be film

Considering a couple of his cinematographers went on to work with digital, I suspect they may have been able to persuade him to consider benefits of the format.

He liked old cameras and would have them customized for his purposes. I think what mattered to him was having the right tool for the job. So the answer to your question imo would depend on what project he had in mind.

Having said that, he created very controlled, composed shots. The advantages of digital might not have the same immediate appeal for him that they do for someone who wants a freely-moving camera that can get anywhere. I can't see him giving up the dolly.

I think he would have loved digital projection for theatrical showings. He attempted to have so much control over that aspect. He'd have letters included in the film canisters and he'd send people to theaters to see if the bulb was bright enough or if the sound was the right level or if the framing and matting was done right. I think he'd love the amount of control over the projection process.
