Is Claire actually interested in Bachir or just being friendly? I was thinking it was the former but he's got to be at least a decade older than her, if not moreso. But then again, some women like older guys. The fact that she "conveniently" played Arab music at her apartment and that the other teacher couldn't make it (and that she told her mother "It's him") suggests that she may have had feelings for him.
Claire was definitely interested in Bachir. The way she let her hair down when they were sitting together on the couch was clearly flirtatious but the bigger tipoff was in how Claire misunderstood Bachir when he said, "I just can't do this," in reference to the curriculum. Her reaction revealed that she had romance, not shoptalk, in mind.
Claire was interested in a relationship with Bachir but his tragedy was too fresh for that. Instead, he was interested in Claire for what she could teach him about being a teacher. The dinner date was an awkward disaster just waiting to happen. It's a beautiful subplot in a film about how we struggle with empathy and communication as we work at cross purposes.
Right in the spot! Oh I got into these forums to see if anyone mentioned anything about the music that Bachir was dancing at the school when Claire saw him... Really great those two singers, but do you exactly which song is it? Thanks in advance...

Yes, she clearly had more than dessert on her mind, while he wanted to discuss curriculum content and teaching styles. I loved the literal letting down of the hair.🐭
