My Take On Things

Okay here is the way I see it. I have seen this fascinating documentary about 7 times now.

What was wrong with Diane on that day seems clear to me. Migraine. I'm not sure but I think that would not have shown up on an autopsy.

Jay saying that Bryan said "mommy's head hurts and she can't see" that is classic migraine. It can cause vision disturbances and pain ranging from mild to excruciating. So that explains, for me, what happened to Diane that day. Though I still believe Diane & Danny had a terrible fight, life-changing, at the campground the night before, but we will never know if that is true.

Ok, that sets up what happened, in part 1. Part 2 is What Diane Did About It. That is where Diane's mish mash of a mental state comes into play. Any normal reasonable person in the same situation would have stayed in the McDonalds, or pulled into a rest stop, told the kids, I can't drive us home, I can't see.

Then since Diane couldn't have called her husband, she could have called her brother, and told him to come and get them.

But that wasn't what Diane did. She pushed through, because she always pushed through, the migraine's effects got worse and worse, and we know the rest.

How would you explain her BAC in this scenario?

**~Not my circus, not my monkeys...~**

reply

She drank, every bit as much booze as the BAC shows she did.

The reason why is the migraine, that doesn't negate anything else.

The reason why is she was a troubled woman who reached her limit.

If a migraine were the reason, we would have a lot more scenarios like this one. I know a LOT of people who get migraines. But we don't.

reply

That is the point in my Part 2 scenario. We don't have more cases like Diane's, because most people faced with a migraine, don't go ahead and drive 5 kids in a van on the Expressway.

Diane did, because of her troubles and troubled personality.

Exactly. People typically lay down in a dark room if they have a migraine. They don't go to a fluorescent lit McDonalds, drink and go on the freeway.

It's not impossible she had one, but it isn't the cause of what happened. She was an angry woman that snapped. It's tragic.

While I think you have a great analysis, I don't think a person suffering from a migraine would drink all that alcohol. Maybe the pot, but not booze.

I believe she deliberately got very drunk and stoned to carry out what she did.

It's easily to believe she was unhappy with her life at the time of her death. She most likely was depressed and wanted to end it all and thought she could hurt her husband and family if she killed the kids. It's sick - but that is what it looks like.

If she has swerved and tried to get to the shoulder of the tatonic when she entered the wrong way then I could think it was a mistake. She also intentionally left the phone on the side of the road.

She was probably the one percent of really evil and mentally ill people in the world.
