What was the point of the machine?

I don't know whether I missed something (I probably did but I thought I'd ask anyway) but I don't understand the point of the machine and why they burnt it because ultimately it seemed useless.

I get that the machine must be based on the one in From Beyond which I have read. Essentially then it allowed people to see and interact with creatures from this "other plane". So when they burnt it all the "banshees" were destroyed... Except for the one at the end. So what what was the point of the machine? It obviously didn't get rid of all the creatures. It obviously didn't stop the creatures from interacting with humans. It obviously didn't negate the transceivers in their brains. So what does it do?

Any suggestions would be helpful because it's sort of eating away at me that I don't understand this ONE thing, haha.

I guess there was more than one, though I have no idea why it would suddenly be over riding an intercom that doesn't normally pick up AM/FM bandwaves and why the one old lady at the end was all ebola face since I didn't see her take the DMT...

in The Ring, Samara's evil spirit transmits itself through electrical wires into TVs, VCRs, even phones. I think the banshees were using radio waves to travel. the machine may have been a signal boost, rather than an originator.

A lot of the stuff in the MK Ultra project was just to see if it worked. They would do experiments on people just to see if they could pull it off.

The machine is probably just another experiment that has been started and then simply left behind.

At area 2? Thomas tells a story about HP Lovecraft writing about a book in the '30s about a scientist who created a machine that turns the pineal gland into a tuning fork for parallel planes of existence...
