great semi-serious documentary

Very tongue in cheek documentary that pokes fun at itself which is pretty much the only way a disco movie should be done. And they manage to do it without slapstick, mostly dry humor. And in there are some real disco gems of knowledge. A fantastic movie for music lovers of funk and the neo-soul sound.

Too bad the documentary presented so many half truths and incomplete information. If this is the only Disco film someone saw, they'll have a distorted view of how things were.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Indeed. This is more a political rant disguised as a disco documentary. Especially annoying were the actors playing "instigators." I think the closing segments say it all, where disco heavyweights themselves are perplexed when asked about whether disco was political.

There was nothing "secret" about the disco "revolution." Some liked the music, some didn't, and some from both sides have changed their perception of the music today while others' perception has been reinforced. Like all forms of art in general and music in particular, you are free to draw your own conclusions about the artists' political impact or lack thereof. We live in an increasingly politicized society, as evidence by these boards, and in my view that detracts from appreciation of popular culture.

On the other hand, this film has valuable footage of acts big and small, and what a soundtrack! I found it easy enough to enjoy this film once I got past the political screeds. On that basis, I gave this 7/10 stars.

I agree about changing perceptions. When I was a kid in middle school, I hated Disco. I even had a 'Disco Sucks' T shirt!!
But now I think a lot of that Music is great,. My main problem was the way it was shoved down peoples throats 24/7, it was ridiculous. Overkill in the extreme.

Too bad you didn't have hands to change the radio station or to put a country or rock album on the turntable. 
