Question about the book.

I just saw the movie, but did not read the book. If anyone has read the book--does it say what actually happened in the woods? The movie leaves it so vague that I couldn't tell if nothing happened, the dad showed up and raped the daughter, Jack and Jillian did have some sort of contact, or what. Does the book make this more clear?

reply

No it doesn't.

The book says nothing about the dad raping Gillian, it is just assumed due to the last line of the novel.

It says what really happens in the woods yes, she tried to force Jack to take part in their celebrations and when he refused she got really mad at him and tried to force herself onto him. Jack refused again and ran off therefore Gillian made up the lie that Jack raped her. She and her friends were also on a drug called "Belladonna" that the movie skips. The book hints now and again that it was the father sexually abusing her. And I don't believe Mr. Duncan was the one that raped Addie, I think it was Officer Saxton.
