Impossible economics

No wonder Lourdes had to resort to prostitution. She's a restaurant worker making minimum wage (if that - note that she was paid under the table, so she's probably in the US illegally and being paid whatever the manager feels like paying), and yet she has her own apartment - a tiny one, yes, but still a regular studio with a bathroom and kitchen area - with a nice view yet, in New York. I don't think that's possible at all, let alone to do it and still have leftover money to send home to El Salvador.

Yeah, if she wanted to raise money for her son's operation, the exorbitant cost of living in NYC should put it at the BOTTOM of the list of places in America to go to find work (well, maybe vying for that bottom spot with Southern California). You have to wonder why she didn't choose some place cheaper to live much closer to the US/Mexican border--it would be less a distance to travel from El Salvador.

I just created a thread about this as I did not see your post. It's ridiculous. I work in a suburb of NYC and work 2 jobs and have barely any money left over for fun.
