if he's not supposed to be the old horned one i don't know who he is but this movie proves beyond doubt he'll do anything for a buck. he and sigourney weaver are in a heated race for the grand prize.

During the scene when the character who bought scratch offs and almost robbed the gas station (before the cop entered with the "you don't look so lucky" line) is about to rob the diner and Eric Roberts' character is directing the girl to who he thinks she should hand over the ability to live forever to, the line "I like her better" leads me to believe he is the devil/a demon. That is simply one point of view, though.

I thought that he was definitely supposed to be the Devil.

I assumed he was "Death". The blonde who was with him "should have" died many times but never did, theoretically because he made her his assistant or whatever. I think the reason I came to this conclusion is when the waitress is reading Eddie's journal aloud, she chooses the passage about how Eddie has "stared Death in the face", supposedly when he killed his first victim in the war. But I just jumped to the conclusion that Eric Roberts was Death, Eddie had seen him (many times during his service, but they chose to show us the one) and that's why he couldn't quite place where he knew the guy from. Also, Eric was always around when someone died (opening credits, before his character was introduced.) I liked the movie, more than I thought I would considering most of the unknown stuff I rent from Redbox is horrible lol.

That's an interesting concept. So she has been strung along for 250 years by death and she has to get someone to make a deal and accept the 'gift' to be free. No. That is the devil. He walks the Earth. Now, to the point of the war I just thought he was close enough to see his friend get collected by the devil. No telling what the man had done but he was definitely collected before the man in fatigues vanished. Now, to the situation in the diner, the couple clearly were some fools. They killed the cook. However, they show every person in the diner outside except for the couple. Did they meet their end that night?

At first I thought he was Satan but after that war story, I realize that he is Death aka the Grim Reaper. He appears when people die just like he appeared when that soldier died.

I briefly thought it was Death too, but there was so much talk about 'deals' concerning Death & relationships that I changed my mind.
