Not really. Hatching Pete was about a mascot who was desperate for attention. How is that the same concept as this?
I've got a theory. It could be bunnies.

You are really reaching...
They have similar themes and structure, but that's it. Most Hollywood movies follow the Heroes Journey format so this is nothing new.
So you were wrong, I was right.
You were wrong to say that this movie is NOTHING like hatching pete

(so I know this is a really old thread and it's nearly pointless to revive it, but whatever)
The thing is, Hatching Pete wasn't anything new. So though the two do have some similarities, it's hardly a "rip off," because then you could just say that Hatching Pete is a rip off of about a dozen other movies and tv shows and books, and those are all rip offs of each other and then youre stuck in some stupid endless loop. They have similar themes, but this movie is actually more similar to Radio Free Roscoe and Pump up the Volume, which are actually about teens anonymously hosting a radio show. The bottom line: it's not "exactly" like anything, thought its definitely really similar to a lot of things.
