why is Gaya

in this documentary? she had on ballet shoes at one point but she never danced any ballet. to me she is more suited for a dance competition where they wear a variety of different costumes & hair and not a ballerina.even at the end they show her in a raggedy Ann costume with a pigtail wig on,sneakers, and shorts which would never be a suitable costume for ballet.

I was thinking the same. She was definitely super talented (her first dance (while still in Italy) was just badass), but it indeed didn't seem like traditional ballet. I don't know much about ballet, so maybe more contemporary styles allow for more diversity. In the finals, her dance was the closest to what I would expect ballet to be. Anyway; my opinion is that she wasn't originally meant to be included in the documentary. It's clear that she wasn't one of the main ones (they didn't present her backstory or anything like that); they just thought she and Aran were really cute together and having a young pair that like each other so much and are both very good (she did get an award in the end as well) is a great story to include.

I just watched this documentary again and Gaya performs a piece from Coppelia in point shoes and traditional costume. But it's the original modern choreography in which she shines as someone really extraordinary. I hope to hear of her success in the future, and see her dance as an adult. I think she's another Sylvie Guillem in the making.
