Explained a lot for me

I remember the mid to late 80's being in love with U2. I didn't like the movie Rattle and Hum at at all but enjoyed the album a lot.

Then they came back with AB and I wondered what in the hell happened to the band that I'd liked so much.

I couldn't handle Bono and his stupid *beep* sun glasses, nor did I enjoy the album much either.

After watching this doc and seeing where the band was after R&H and all the touring, you could really see what was going on. Stuff that you don't really know unless they do a doc like this!

You'd think they were doing so well and selling out huge arenas but they felt they didn't have the material to play such venue's? Crazy to hear them even suggest that with all the albums they had in the 80's with lots of solid tunes.

I guess when they did UF in 84, they changed a lot from their first 3 albums. Taking that forward for the next 2 (JTa and R&H).

So 3 albums and a rebirth. I'm not counting UABRS either.

I liked the doc, as it really explained what was going on at the time. I too wish they would have had more on the album and how it all came together but then you could have just called it another episode of VH1's Classic Albums. This was similar in a way but not so much about the AB album but what the band was and then forced to evolve.

If you're a U2 fan, this is a must.

I'll go and buy AB and give it another go... 20 years later.

me too, it explained a lot

i like all the comments on the thought processes, motivations, state of mind at the time

interesting how it was done, too, as largely V O with archive footage. so we are getting the hindsight comments, with old footage. a good combo there
