This show has the worst opening credit scene in history!

...between the Nutcracker music, cheap black and white video meant to look like film images, and the colored ribbons, it looks like a Kotex commercial! Then to end it with Sutton Foster in color and doing that "hmmm, I COULD do this!" expression, it is just awful...I cringe through it every time. I also sort of don't like the show, but I am watching it because I LOVED GG and am holding out hope. I really like Boo and Fannie, so I think something can come of this...but that opening! uggggggh

That's the part I don't like. She just has this dopey face, and the camera lingers for far too long.

I agree, it's a terrible opening. It has nothing to do with the rest of the show - it gives you no sense of what the show or the characters are like. I do like that it's short, though. The GG theme went on forever, that always annoyed me.

reply

THIS!! I hated the GG theme and I wish the DVDs came with an option to bypass it. You have to listen to that long az song for every episode.

I never really thought about the Bunhead opening because I love that it's short.

reply

My husband is an expert for fast forwarding the theme songs to shows. But I don't like it when he does to the GG one becuase I love it so much. But yeah, all dvd's should let you "skip" that part - it's not like we don't have it memorized.

reply

Does your remote not have a *skip to next scene* button? I like the theme song, but I don't care to listen to it every time I rewatch GG.

"This wouldn't hold up in food court."

reply

I'm fond of it. It's not brilliant, but few intros are. I'm glad we at least have an intro, a lot of shows these days seem to be going with barely any intro at all.

reply

I really like it. I think it's pretty well done.

reply

Don't forget the ridiculous "Amy Sherman Palladino Presents" vanity credit. What a HUGE ego for someone who has never had a big hit show (and no, "Gilmore Girls" was not a big hit).

reply

You must have a pretty high threshold for what constitutes a hit. GG got two to three times as many viewers as any of ABC Family's hits. It was one of the most popular shows in its demographic. Heck, it beat Buffy.

reply

Not to mention, it ran for seven seasons.

reply

Scrubs ran for nine, and was never a big hit. 30 Rock ran for 7 and was never a big hit.

Gilmore Girls never cracked the top 50 shows in primetime. That's not a big hit.

reply

What constitutes a big success is relative to what can be and is being attempted to achieve.

It was a big hit for the WB and made lots of money for everyone involved. Money-losing shows aren't renewed for seven seasons.

reply

This is probably disputable but I think Gilmore Girls has reached a "classic" status. It's one of those shows that people have probably heard of and it's groundbreaking in its own GG way.

reply

I agree. Not to mention the fact that if it had been any network but the WB, it would have been an Emmy winner.

Actually, Gilmore Girls WAS a big hit. And ASP did not request the "Amy Sherman-Palladino presents" that was thrust upon the credits by the network because they wanted to make sure people understood this was from the writer of Gilmore Girls and they can't say THAT in the opening credits.

No, moron - Gilmore Girls was not a "big hit". Go look at the ratings:

Season 1: Ranked #126
Season 2: #121
Season 3: #121
Season 4: #157
Season 5: #110
Season 6: #119
Season 7: #129

Not a hit.

reply

You're an idiot hands down. Gilmore Girls was a hit for the WB, and it's become iconic after all these years. A non-hit show would not get a revival series either. I can't stand the show, but it ran for a long time, and it has a HUGE fanbase. Critics generally liked it, too. So yeah, you're an idiot.

Not even close, you must have never watched an episode of Orange Is The New Black. Horrible faces and awful music.

Check it out and you tell me which is worse.

I like the opening.

reply

I think the opening is pretty cheesy, it's like there's a tampax commercial hidden in the opening. Then again it's at least short compared to GG's opening, that was too long! And I agree about Sherman Palladino's vanity credit, a little overdone, outside of GG I don't think anybody knows who she is.

reply

While I DO love, love, love the show, I can NOT stand the opening credits. To its credit (ha!) it's short, so that's nice. I hope they change it for the second season. The Nutcracker music is just cheap. And The Nutcracker ALWAYS makes me think of Christmas, which is jarring since most of this show has bright sunny blue skies all the time.

I REALLY hope they change the opening credits completely for the second season. Something more GG-que visually (showing the various characters) but musically they can have Sam Phillips whip something up.

As a ballet fan who never saw GG and watches Bunheads because it's about ballet (and also because I'm an Alan Ruck fan--I miss Hubble!), I like the opening. I just wish they'd match the face with the name as they do in the C.S.I.s, Law & Orders, Grimm, etc.

Well, to be fair, the show is set on the California coast... Christmas here is either sunny blue skies or a bit of rain (rarely, at least where I live).

Also, Fanny does her Nutcracker performance in the summer :p

reply

The logic of it doesn't excuse that it just FEELS weird to hear Nutcracker music all year long via this show. :P

I've previously posted that I like the credits on this show more than any other ABCFamily show. The only thing I don't like is the cut to Michelle; the credits should end right before that. At least they're better than Secret Life and The Lying Game.

It's Rex Manning Day!

I actually really like the opening to The Lying Game. It's a cool song and I like the pool scenes.
