Is this based on the video game which Andy Serkis was one of the voice actors?

It is. The lead female character in the game was called Kai.

Kai. I swear this film is based on the video game of the same name. I know it.

You're playing as that redhead Nariko like 95% of the time. Kai is a secondary character, only used twice in the whole game.

You DO play as Nariko. She is the main character and the secondary character that you play as is Kai. :)
