Love Love Love Gran Hotel...

I totally crack up during the scenes with Ayala and Hernando. So funny.
I also am in love with Andres - I feel so deeply for him and can't wait until he finds out the truth (I am in the middle of Season 2).
Feel sorry for Javier as he is controlled by his mother (he is kinda cute too).

Of course, Yon makes me swoon and I am no youngster. And Alicia is so beautiful - she reminds me of an American celebrity but I can't put my finger on it - maybe Christie Brinkley or Mariel Hemingway - can't place her face but it's so familiar.

I loved El Internado with a passion, now this....and hopefully I will enjoy Velvet next.

There is a British program "Paradise" that I may get into after the Spanish shows.

I'm with you about Grand Hotel, of course. I tried The Paradise but it just didn't grab me. What did grab me hard was Poldark. I hope you got a chance to see that. It's actually available for sale on DVD if you can't find it on TV. It may be on YouTube, but a production as splendid as this deserves your best equipment, including the sound, that you can play it on, and the DVD has scenes that were missing on PBS—go figure. Just like Grand Hotel, Poldark has gorgeous music. And don't even get me started about the lead, Aidan Turner! 😍 At any rate, I enjoyed Velvet and am looking forward to the third season one of these days. I'm in the third season of El internado. Trying to use all this Spanish to help me learn new words and listen to how the language is spoken. Grand Hotel inspired me to start studying Spanish a year ago July. It's fun, and I'm getting better and better though I could in no way be considered fluent. 😖 Oh well, estoy tratando y voy a tener éxito finalmente. Quizas... 😛

Oh yes,I did see the Poldark with Aidan Turner. But my favorite is the Poldark from the 70's with Robin Ellis. I own the complete DVD set.

How do you like El Internado? I was addicted to it - loved all the stars in that one. Amazing how the children acted - doing so many episodes so perfectly. You can see how they grew as the seasons progressed. I even love Martin Rivas, but haven't seen him anywhere else.

Notice Saul in El Internado was in Grand Hotel? He played the serial killer (he was the maître D) in Season 1.

Oh, I love love Fermin (Raul Fernandez). He is not classicly handsome like Yon and Martin, but I could easily fall in love with him.

reply

I can't say I'm addicted to El internado at this point. I am curious as to what is going on, but it's really confusing, especially since I'm trying to use it for learning Spanish so I'm always stopping to take note of expressions and stuff. I agree about the children. They're really terrific, amazing really. And yes, I've seen several people from Grand Hotel in El internado. It's great fun having some familiarity with the cast members. They sure play different kinds of roles, although Manuel de Blas seems almost as strange as he was as Don Benjamin. As for Fermin, Raul Fernandez, I'm not sure what's going on with him yet, whether he's a good guy or a bad guy, so I'll have to reserve judgement there. He is kinda cute.

I have the 70s VHS tapes of Poldark, but I have to say, this new version is simply stunning. I think it's possible to love both, but if I had my druthers, I'd take Aidan's version. ::sigh:: Dang, he's gorgeous! LOL

I can guarantee that you will be addicted beginning from the end of Season 3 through the rest of the series. The first 2 and 1/2 seasons are pretty much set up.. but get ready for a wild ride. How far along are you? Season 4 episode 3 begins the wild ride...

reply

I've gotten through it up to the first 3 episodes of season 3 so far. I'm pretty confused at this point, which I assume is what they want us to be. I will continue though I can't say I'm nearly as addicted to this as I was from the first episode of Grand Hotel. But I do enjoy watching Paula and her friend Evelyn. They're awfully cute. And this has taught me a lot of new Spanish words and phrases, especially swear words. LOL I can't get over how nice their swear words sound compared to ours! Not that I'll be using them, but it's nice to know what they are so I can either understand or avoid them. ::snicker:: Also, Marcus is pretty divine, isn't he? Ivan is starting to look a little more like Julio. I'm assuming they filmed these episodes a year apart? Maybe less since the girls don't seem to be aging all that much.

You are still early in the game. It starts getting interesting the last episode of season 3.. I promise you will not be disappointed. Just keep going.. and keep me posted. :-)

reply

I must say, this story is pretty creepy. And implausible in a lot of ways. But okay, I'll keep going. It's definitely helping me with Spanish immersion, and I've seen Grand Hotel just too many times. I needed something different. 🇪🇸

reply

I promise you that Ivan will be one of your favorite characters once this is over.. he may even surpass Julio.. I know its hard to believe, but you will be surprised. I never thought any character could surpass Julio, till I met Ivan. :-)

reply

Have you met Ross Poldark, aka Aidan Turner? ::sigh:: Amazing. 😍

reply

I am too deep into Yon right now.. I will check him out when I get over Yon.. :-)

reply

You'll thank me! He is seriously to die for. 😍 http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1190062592/nm2636108?ref_=nmmd_md_nxt

To the OP, I just wanted to say that Alicia reminds me of Meg Ryan so much!

reply

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps in looks somewhat, but her personality is nothing like the characters Meg usually played. But it has been a while, so perhaps I've forgotten.

Hi my name is Ruan. I like Gran Hotel too. I'd like to talk to someone about it. It´s so fantastic. I am learning Spanish too, And I am watching the second season.

reply

Welcome to the board, Ruan! I have the DVDs of Gran Hotel and am going through them mainly for Spanish immersion since I've already seen it 14 times. LOL Still, all they have is Spanish subtitles, so it's helpful, though I'm certainly not catching everything. But I know the basic story, so that's not the point.

Where are you watching it? They seem to have taken it off of Netflix, which would be a real shame if people were right in the middle like you are. Is it running somewhere outside the US? I think it's running on a Spanish cable channel here but only once a week, which isn't nearly often enough. Sería muy difícil esperar una semana para el próximo episodio.

reply

Hey...sorry for the delay. I am from Brazil. So I think Spanish is easier for me, because is similar to Portuguese.

I am watching from a site that has series in Spanish. Everyone has Netflix less I...LOL

I hope we can talk more about Gran Hotel. It's so good.

Regards

reply

Oh cool! I know folks who speak Portuguese seem to have a fairly easy time with Spanish. I love how it sounds in Brazil. I used to have neighbors from the Azores, and they always sounded like they were fighting. Brazilians sound like they're singing. :)

Yes, please feel free to write about it. Glad you're able to watch the show. Is it popular there?
