shows like grand hotel

I really miss rand hotel. Do you guys know any shows like it. It doesn't matter for em what language it is as long as it isn't cheesy and involves drama, romance and mystery.

Thanks.

Poldark, of course! Season one was broadcast last summer on PBS, but you can get the DVD. It's also free on Amazon Prime. They're doing post-production on season two, and season three starts shooting in September, so it it'll have nice long run like Gran Hotel.

Looks good. But I was looking for something that has a man and a woman like Alicia and Julio
Any other suggestions?

Again, Poldark! Only the woman is of the lower class while the man is of the upper class, but it's somewhat similar that way. It also doesn't take them three seasons to finally get together. LOL

Upstairs Downstairs BBC 2010
Downton Abbey (of course!)
The Paradise

All are period pieces with great characters. The Grand Hotel is a but unique in comparison but they all have intriguing plots, drama, love and breaches in social classes.

Velvet. It's by the same producers of Gran Hotel, but it's set at a luxury department store in 1950s Madrid. The style is more of a Gilmore Girls' rapid fire and witty dialog, whereas Gran Hotel is slower and had more physical cues. There's a couple of shared elements to the stories.

Also, in 2017, the same production team is making a series for Netflix called, "Cable Girls" which is "Set in the 1920s, this is the story of four women from different backgrounds newly hired as operators for a phone company." (from IMDb)

Interesting! I hadn't heard about this new series—presumably also in Spanish? I'll have to get back to studying it, although with their "rapid fire... dialogue," I'm really unable to follow most of it without subtitles.

For Velvet, they speak much more quickly than in Gran Hotel. Also, they're more witty, so I just left the subtitles on.

This is the link to an article in Variety about Cable Girls.

It was just announced that both Yon Gonzalez and Blanca Suarez are going to be in the series, but not much else.

Wow, amazing how much of that Spanish article I understood. I'm going to have to get back to my studies. Thanks so much! I'm not surprised Gran Hotel got the attention of Netflix. I must have watched it myself 14 times through. LOL Of course, it was mainly for the Spanish, and yeah, I noticed they spoke a lot faster on Velvet than Gran Hotel. I also noticed that when Yon Gonzalez is interviewed, he doesn't speak fast at all. Too bad they don't have people speak more like they do in real life. Like English speakers, some speak fast and some slow, but most of us are kind of medium. It would make it easier to learn Spanish if more of these shows were paced like that. Oh well...

I just checked Netflix and Las chicas del cable is already there, but without any content yet. Will be a matter of time before it will be released I hope. The imdb page of it is also not complete yet. But this one I will surely see! Great that Netflix has a Spanish series as an original.
