Anyone had a hard time getting into S3?

I've been watching this show non-stop on Netflix for a little while now and I am absolute love with it! I've finally made it into S3 and I'm currently watching the 6th episode of the season. For some reason, I am having a harder time getting into this season. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show. It's incredible! But the overall "mystery" of the season just isn't grabbing me like the previous 2 did. Did anyone have this same feeling? I'm no doubt going to stick with it because even though it's not grabbing me as much, it's still very entertaining. I'm just curious if anyone else had the same thoughts while watching.

i kinda am. but i was coding during the first few episodes and kinda lost track of what was going on. i didn't even notice when maite came into play. but that's mostly me for not paying attention. once i got the gist of it i was back into.

the truth is that it got kinda repetitive towards the end of the second season for me. maybe it's just binge exhaustion.

maybe it's just binge exhaustion.

I'm starting to think that is just what it is. So far I have watched 53 of the 66 episodes. I only have 13 episodes left until I am finished, but I think I'm just a little burnt out from watching it. I love binge watching, but I always have a hard time when I have to get through a considerable amount of episodes/seasons. So maybe it's more of the fact that I feel a little burnt out watching it. I haven't watched a single episode in 2 days now and I'll probably give it another couple days before I begin watching again. Maybe then I'll have the motivation to tackle the final 13 episodes.

Watching one a day is actually easier, imho. Sitting for hours and trying to figure out this complicated plot can get kind of confusing after a while. At least with a day in between, you can think about it and figure out what might be going on. I've watched the series many times (mainly to reinforce Spanish-language studies), but I don't watch more than one a day, and I didn't even when I was watching for the first time. It just seems excessive to try to squeeze it all in at once, plus it gives me something to look forward to. By the time I finish it, I've forgotten a lot of the details so it's more like watching it new when I start over. Just be glad you didn't have to wait for the third season like we did for at least half a year. Imagine living with that cliffhanger at the end of season two for ¡más que seis meses!

I like series 3 well so far, but I have only watched 2 episodes yet. Finally Julio and Alicia run off together, so I am hoping to have some romance coming up. Of course I know things will be complicated again for them but in series 2 it was mostly about solving mysteries, and I love the romance more. I also know it ends well for them in the end. :-)

Damn, the train was stopped by Ayala and now they are back in the hotel again, with a furious Diego. I like it that Julio was mad at Alicia, his honour was as stake. I am about to watch the next episode of season 3.

I felt the same way at the beginning of Season 3 but I suggest to keep watching till the end. It really gets intense from the middle to the end. It lost me for a bit too but in my opinion it's worth it to keep going.

I'm on episode 7 of season 3 right now and I know how you feel. For me, a large part of the problem is everything seems to be going around in circles with no real progress made. I'm tired of seeing someone commit a crime or attempt to dig up dirt on Diego, only to have Diego conveniently be precisely where he needs to be to discover the truth and foil everybody's plans--and somehow never get got himself. The guy is freaking omniscient and untouchable.

This should have been a 30 or 40 episode series. Not 66 episodes. All in my humble opinion, of course.

reply

Perhaps, but I never really watched it so much for the plot as for the characters, the good ones anyway. I did get pretty tired of Diego myself, as well as Belén. But by the time I finished the second season, I felt like I knew everyone and wanted to see what happened to them. Let me just say, I think it's worth it to keep going. The ending is just great and makes it all worthwhile, imho.

I certainly plan to stick with it; I'm not the type to abandon a show unless it gets truly dreadful, which Grand Hotel certain has not. It's just a case of less being more. The show is a tad too repetitive. I wish they had written off a couple of major characters (like Diego or Belen) by this point--just to liven things up.

Having said that, I just finished the episode where the king and queen arrived at the hotel and there's a noticeable improvement. So season three is picking up and starting to feel like the early episodes again.

Off-topic side note: The clues being sent to the heroes are driving me crazy. So someone arranged the room keys and made a cipher that required the characters to write down the key arrangement at the front desk and figure out how those numbers corresponded to letters in a sentence, decoding it into the actual message. I don't know if you play video games much, particularly older games, but that's something straight out of an old puzzle solving game like Myst. It was a serious what-the-heck moment for me.

reply

Well, at least you could follow it. I found the decoding thing confusing and didn't try too hard to figure it out.
