Seriously, vanity in the face of death

I enjoyed the movie and it brought back the drama felt when it actually happened. but in all seriousness, when they were faced with death and short on water, they actually took the trouble to SHAVE ??? cumooooooon !!!!

I saw documentary about this real life event. Yes, the men did shave but I believe that was after they were receiving provisions they needed from the rescue team. Did you notice they also had all new clothing? All sent from the rescue team.

reply

The rescue team gave them food, clothing and cleaning kits.

Having an atmosphere of normalcy and doing mundane things plays a huge role when it comes to surviving anything.

It's not vanity. It's keeping your dignity and sanity. It's uplifting too.

Yep, there's nothing like a nice clean shave. Anyone know if they had a makeshift shower down there too?

reply

There was a makeshift shower. The poured water down the tube. Well I assume it was water, the miners said the liquid was a bit yellow.

It's that man again!!

I was watching the movie and was thinking to myself that, after getting food and water, that the most important thing for me would be to blasted with a jet wash or something and pretty much hosed down with a load of shower gel. For one thing they're going on camera to be seen by their family for another just imagine being down there for 2 weeks like that!

Not to add to the pile on that your complaint is getting but it's all true.

An ex Navy bud of mine said that the Navy values a single razor blade over all pieces of equipment in a survival situation for the simple fact above other uses that one can keep up morale with a clean shave throughout trying times....

So, there you go with that.
