Well, 2 is, without trying to sound snobbish, the most brainy of the lot. The script explores the Covenant and their devotion excellently, and puts the fight most in perspective by bringing it back to earth. Unlike say 4 where you are given at least three or four distinctly different avennues of approach for each fight, you were often forced to deal with what Bungie had dealt you, forcing you to think pretty hard on occasion, but strangely within the limited options there were thousands, and when you figured out a cool way to kill the Covenant, it was you who figured it out, not 343 giving you a convenient sniping spot. The weapons are very well balanced for Multiplayer as well, so that you can beat any gun with any gun. This kinda dissolved in 4. You get the SAW, you win. Yes, it has the least adventurous feel, which most people don't like, but that's because they're busy fleshing out existing stuff, and made it the most emotionally rewarding.
Whatever I've just said pales in relevance to how much I miss Spider-Man 4.
