Underrated

This movie is pretty damn funny. I don't understand the low rating. Definitely not horror though.

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

It's more on the psychological horror tip than anything else, but this film was actually seriously funny it some parts, and Simon Pegg looked really good with long red hair (and was hilarious as usual--nice to see him try and do something It's one of the better things he's done recently. But,yeah, I liked this film too---it had an old-school flavor to it, and it was well-written,plus the stop animation sequence with the hedgehog was really cute. It dosen't seem to ever have gotten a U.S. release, though, and it didn't play in any theaters in my town. Which is a shame, because it does deserve a little hype, since it's actually pretty good, and plus, it's definitely a good pick to watch around Halloween time.

Yeah, I'd say a black comedy/drama with psychological horror/thriller and some slight surrealist elements . . . which might sound like an unclear mishmash, but it's important to remember that the basic orientation is a quirky psychological drama about a writer.

I liked it quite a bit, too. It was well acted, it was very skillfully done re putting you in the protagonist's mental world, with his extreme paranoia where the slightest things were turned into a horror/thriller reality for him, the production design, cinematography, etc. were all excellent, and it's very funny at times, though usually subtly and dryly so. Still, there quite a few absurdist moments worthy of Monty Python even.

Well summarised! It definitely brought to mind some classic British comedy like Monty Python, League of Gentlemen, etc. Simon Pegg is a great comedic actor, especially with these more physical roles. And the production design, art direction and cinematography of the film were excellent. Loved how the tone was so arch and eccentric, with a good blend of comedy and psychological horror and some really darkly funny moments. The whole scene in the laundrette was incredible. This film is a solid 7 at least, IMDB users sadly don't seem to appreciate inventive indie fare like this.

It would have been received really well as a BBC miniseries I feel. It's really British and quite quirky, reminds me a bit of the Dirk Gently series with Steven Mangan.
