Yeah a stripper who doesn't strip

That's where I stopped watching this turd. It could only get worse and I'm sure it did.

That is your criticism? Because you didn't get to see T & A, this movie is a "turd?" Wow, you should be a professional film reviewer!

reply

I am.

reply

Well what can one expect from a shallow idiot such as you?

Wow, you're a loser.

This film is prone to a lot of criticism, but "a stripper who doesn't strip" is just a cheap-shot cop-out. You can do better, wvsarafan.

To the OP this is very real regarding how many of these women feel regarding her fear to get on stage. I am sorry it did not benefit your twisted fantasy.

reply

It doesn't ruin the whole movie--or even Vanessa Hudgin's entire performance--but it IS annoying, the OP is right.

They COULD have left that scene out easily enough. But if you're going to do it, do it RIGHT. Vanessa Hudgins gets cast in movies more because she's very hot than because she's very talented, and playing the non-nude Hollywood stripper stereotype doesn't change that. Every movie I've ever seen her in (including this one) at some point features a close-up of her short-shorts-clad, bikini-clad, or thong-clad ass. So let's not pretend like she's Meryl Streep.

Here's an idea, if you want to be "taken seriously as an actress", maybe don't play a stripper. And if you do, do it authentically. But if you're going to coast by on your looks AND play strippers, guys are going to expect to see you naked

reply

I think the movie emphasized fairly that she was a "dancer." The woman who took her in (and who introduced her to drugs to ease her reluctance) pointedly asked, "You can dance?" Exotic dancer v. Stripper. This was not an HBO special setup with gratuitous nudity and polls for viewers to judge whether or not her body was "hot." (The real life woman was assaulted!) In fact, I first heard about the story on "FBI Files" which was a lot darker than was portrayed.

reply

The OP may not have been very eloquent, but I am in agreement with his point of view, also.

If you can't do a nude scene, don't play a topless dancer.

If you won't touch a gun, don't play a cop.

If you are afraid of the water, don't play in Esther Williams' life story...

Jessica Alba pulled this same stunt in Sin City...it just doesn't work!

Side note: I wanted to like this movie very much. I enjoyed those 2 leads so much in Con Air. But the movie was a dud. The victims seems very unsympathetic. The leads wives seemed to be in another world.

The cops knew who was doing the killing at the beginning of the movie and still couldn't stop him?

In all the interrogations, they never had her look at mug shots or called in a sketch artist. I am not knocking the police work by actors in a movie---but man, I have lots of scorn for the director and screenwriters.

reply

They could have her topless (possibly with pasties or something) and just shoot around it. I just don't understand why filmmakers don't do thst more often with "no nudity clause" actresses. It's better than clothed strippers and sex scenes.

reply

I don't really understand why the hire "no nudity" clause actors to play the role of a stripper.....

reply

Jessica Alba in Sin City...it just doesn't work!

Really!

reply

The sad reality is that all those "no nudity clause" actresses have horribly disfigured breasts. I find it very rude to call attention to this.

Good day sir.

Yeah, because when I watch a film about a woman was kidnapped and assaulted, I really want to see her tits. Can't say I noticed or cared. Ness Hudgens is a decent actress. She might not be Meryl Streep, but she's no Demi Moore (the other extreme) either.
