I agree, but I think he does a mentally unstable character, like in SLP, the best.
shareHe played that role as if it were made for him. It's incredibly accurate. I know people EXACTLY like that, and he definitely nailed it. He carried it over to 'American Hustle' as well, albeit in a different type of role. More self aware in the latter, whereas in SLP, it's the characters ignorance or lack of self-awareness that causes his problems.
