shareTwo reasons for handling the teaser trailer that way:
1) If they announced that Mel was appearing in the sequel, that would spoil the upcoming film (Voz lives). The trailer also kept the fate of Michelle Rodriguez's second eye a surprise.
2) R.R. wanted to make a "Man in the Iron Mask" joke.
If the 3rd installment is ever made, Mel won't appear in it. That was part of the reason for the mask, so that if/when the sequel is made they can get another actor in the mask and not have to pay Mel Gibson's high salary--what would be the point if you're not seeing his face?
