Phone sex? Is this the 90s?

I'm not usually the kind of person to make a big deal out of little things like this, but...
Phone sex hotline? Does this movie take place in the 90s? That's to irrelevant to the 21st century. What's the angle? Is there some retro theme? Nostalgia? Why didn't they just start a webcam? Do people still even call phone sex hotlines? This just seems so irrelevant, yet it got this like "fresh! spunky!" attitude. I really hope this movie takes place in the 90s, because it doesn't work in the 21th century.

well they have to advertise some shady business at 2 in the morning on cable networks. I have netflix instead of cable so I wouldn't know what's current and relevant in 2012, but I think back in 2005 they still had sex hotline ads late at night.

And if I was one of these girls I would way rather do phone sex than a webcam show which can be saved and linked to me at any time. My footage could be stolen and leaked to anyone. But phone sex, you do it one time, you dont like, nobody knows who you really are and you never actually have to do anything except talk.... or groan or giggle or whatever. You can be doing the dishes while someone jacks off on the other end and they could run into you at the grocery store and have no clue it's you. Much safer, less humiltating... way more amusing than some poor thing doing a degrading webcam show where she puts all sort of insane things in gross places and shoves her privates into a camera.

^LMFAO everything that you said is the truth. Phone sex is fun AND more anonymous.

Cheers.

One of my closest friends is a phone sex operator. It is still a business that is alive and well. Like the previous poster said, it is anonymous unlike webcams and I'm sure most people prefer that.

I googled phone sex and it came up with several numbers. There are things like Live Links and Interactive Male which are more so "dating lines," but notice I put those words in quotations. There are also several specialty sex lines like firefighters, teachers, etc. so yes this is very relevant - just because you're more visual doesn't mean everyone is!

"That's to (sic) irrelevant to the 21st century."

Hardly. Pick up the "alternative" newspaper in any major urban area. The classified ads will be filled with listings for phone sex services. Even in 2012.

It's still a huge industry. I used to date a woman who did that to make extra money (she was a substitute teacher during the day and did calls from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. five nights a week). She earned between $10 and $20 an hour, depending on how busy she was, just sitting there on the sofa, drinking wine and watching TV with the sound muted.

But boy did she come to bed horny.

Hahaha that's one of the perks.

I know a guy who used to be a phone sex operator a few years ago. His operator name was Felicia, and he did a disturbingly accurate female impersonation.

If anything I would think phone sex lines are MORE popular now with cell phones. No one can open your home phone bill in the mail and see who you called.

They wanted to be able to take part in all the hype that the song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen received. Can't do that using a webcam.

Well Mogsoggindog,i think that all of the posts to your message and the fact that i also know people who do it to get by, proves that you dont know what youre talking about. Phone sex is more popular now than in the 90s!Perhaps partly due to the recession and partly as someone else said, dude to mobile phones. The people i know who do it are constantly busy and its providing much needed financial relief in tough times!
After all, phone sex is the ultimate safe and discreet sex! I for one cant wait to see the movie, from the reviews it sounds really funny, it may be rubbish, but wont know that till we see it will we?

So when you say irrelevant to the 21st century?? sounds like you're the one not living in it!!

reply

I would think it's a bit of a good thing to not know what you're talking about when it comes to phone sex. Regardless, I don't see why anyone should be attacked for admitting they don't know something.

If phone sex is relevant in the 21st century, I guess I'm a happily irrelevant guy. ^_^

They're being called out for being so sure of themselves, when they were actually wrong… It has nothing to do with admitting ignorance.
