This is the kind of movie that pseudo intellectuals think is funny but is just incredibly stupid, boring and remarkably unfunny. Probably enjoyed by people who still think smoking pot is cool.
Not one but two incredibly ugly guys with fairly attractive women. Nerd fantasy movie. Incredible acting by the dome of the women calling David Cross cute. Mush have taken over 50 takes to say that and not crack up.

This movie tried to be funny, and smart, by being ¨subtly funny and smart,¨ and it was far from either. I mean, the attempt at random banter in the dialogue was just not clever, not original.
Hahaha and come on - that is funny - about the actress having to take 50 takes to say David Cross is good looking.
Only thing is, I think most true nerds would have the same feeling about this movie as the OP.

I didn't get "nerd fantasy" from this movie at all, and I can't stand those movies. Sure, David Cross being Julia Styles' boyfriend is clearly supposed to be funny since everyone (irl) keeps stressing how ugly he is and in the movie everyone is nonchalant about it, girls even call him cute + he got a sexual proposal from Buck and Lexi, which was laugh out loud funny.
And the Shane character was entirely on America Ferrera's level.
America who ever ruined the entire vibe of the film
shareCross and Stiles wasn't unbelievable. See couples like that all the time. Ferrera and that guy was harder to believe as he just isn't the kind of guy that women, especially younger reasonably attractive women, go for.
