Just saw it, afterthoughts

I just had the pleasure of catching this flick via SIFF up in Everett. It was an awesome movie that pretty much reflected my late high school years when I was struggling with weight gain and my parents bought me a drum kit to give me an outlet besides video games. While there is not much rocking in FKRtW, that is not really what the story is about. To me, it was about just figuring out how to come into your own, sticking your neck out for your friends when they need it most, and learning to do what you want and love. All great messages.

As an added bonus, Jacob Wysocki (along with many of the cast and crew of the movie) were at this showing and Jacob did a Q&A after the screening which was really cool. I'm definitely recommending this movie to my friends, be it through the theaters or through other means, it will definitely get seen and I feel it will be a movie young kids struggling with whatever issues can really grasp on to and just flat out enjoy. I don't think it will help with any major issues, but just the thought of knowing there are others out there like you is sometimes all it takes.

I saw the movie at the Open Roof Festival in Toronto, Ontario Canada last night and I love this movie. It made me cry which is something I almost never do at movies. The last person who made me cry was Adam Sandler! Everyone was perfect! Jacob, Matt and Billy Campbell as the father who's just trying to keep it all together and is so glad that his kid is excited about anything other than video games that he'll buy him drums and let him hang out with a drug addict. I hope Matthew Lillard directs many more movies because he just gets it and got awesome performances out of all of his actors. I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone!

maybe Punch-Drunk Love or Funny People.

or maybe it's tears about how *beep* his career has gotten

Reign over Me, most likely, but the points still there.

Sensible review and the trailer would seem to back you up.

This movie was terrible.

It really is the worst movie I have ever seen.

It had a great message and was true to the novel to a tee. However, I would not watch it again. It was a bit slow-moving and the comedy bits weren't very funny.

Yeh this films was pretty bad, which is really sad because i really like Lillard. But I don't why people are calling Wysockis' performance good. It was actually pretty bad, like whenever he was pondering something he would mouth it, or make stupid, obvious facial expressions. Do people call this performance fearless because he's fat and doesn't wear a shirt some of the time? Seriously, how is this performance good or fearless? O'learys' acting was just not good, it felt so recycled and don't get me started on how bad the crush, the younger brother or the ex-friend were. Whoever played the father was good, too bad his character was pretty cliched and poorly written.

The Marcus role was just a 'manic pixie dream girl' with a guy instead of a chick. The cutaways are so derivative and the music was really awful, especially the crappy punk-pop song in the credits. A seriously disappointing experience.
