The bounced cheques.

I'm maybe a bit slow off the mark but what happened here?

Matthew won a lottery or something and wanted Mary to open a separate account in her own name to *hide* it.
Yep, I can understand why he might want to cook the books - but why did the cheques that Mary wrote bounce?

Was the $4,999 win not real, or did Mary just spend more than she had?

There is nothing wrong with Christianity. Only some of the people who practice it.

It was a scam. They were told they had won money but the checks they were awarded were fake.

In the movie Matthew is the one to fall for the scam and blame his wife, but from what I've read it was actually Mary.

Milo, I've told you again and again - please, don't walk on the chickens!
