Pile of something in the apartment

In the abandoned apartment (from which they can see the reactor through the window) when Uri is off by himself, he sees a pile or lump of something on the floor and nudges it off to the side with his foot, then announces it's time to leave. Can someone tell me what that pile was? It was hard for me to tell, especially with that virtually black and white photography.

I think it was a pile of warm ashes implying someone recently had a fire going, if you noticed Uri held is hand over it as if testing for heat.

Okay thanks, I had missed that part about him holding his hand over it. That's interesting--I guess that would have been the mutants (seen later in the movie) who would have had the fire going; suggests Uri knew about their existence, that maybe there was an ulterior motive to the whole "extreme tour"; I remember at one point one of the Americans asks another "How well do you really know Uri?" And of course we don't know what Uri and the guards say to each other when the van arrives at the checkpoint...

I thought it was a pile of bear scat. Uri put his hand over it and felt that it was still warm, indicating that the bear was still nearby. Which, as it turns out, the bear was! But, now that someone else mentioned it being ashes to a fire, I can see that as a possibility too.
