None of them knew how to use a gun!

I do think this movie was alright but one of the things that annoyed me about this was that these people don't know how use a freaking gun!! While it was a good idea when Paul shot at the door to keep the enemy away the other times they were so stupid with it. Like when Paul left the gun with Natalie and Chris in the van yet when the group comes back to watch the recording of them getting attacked neither Nat or Chris used the gun to warn them to go away or even attempt to shoot someone while clearly they're trying to kill you instead they just surrender! And lastly Michael couldn't aim to shoot at anyone when they were being chased to the bottom of the underground passage which led to the gun running out of bullets. Maybe Uri was the only one good with it but of course his gun shots were off screen.

Nat and Chris not firing the pistol actually makes sense when I can recall Chris showing a strong aversion to firearms when Yuri first produces the pistol.
While you and I see firearms as useful instruments for reducing danger from an assailant (punching a bad guys ticket), there are individuals who see firearms as evil. To each his own.
As to none of the young people seeming to know anything about firearms, there is a lot of that going around, too. I have trained my older daughter to use a shotgun and a 9mm semi-automatic. I have given her to understand that if I am not at home and her mother is incapacitated (dead), then it is up to her to protect her little sister. Sure, some of you are saying that they simply have to dial 911 and help will be on the way. A long five minutes away.
OP, you bring up good points, but while some parents teach their children how to keep a budget and drive an automobile, a good many (that own firearms, mind you) neglect to teach how to handle a firearm. My stepfather being one of them.
So for those that are against firearms (it is your right), so be it. The rest of us will exercise our 2nd Amendment right (for those that are fortunate to live in the United States).

cheers to ya mate,

Good points there, sir. It's not the fault of the characters that they were never taught to operate firearms (sadly there are too many people who just regard them as inherently "bad" and have no interest in learning how to operate them and refuse to respect them as tools that people have been using for survival for centuries). And the whole "help being 5 minutes away" is only a best case scenario, as I'm sure you know (living in a city with a decently staffed full time police dept versus a rural area with 1 or 2 deputy sheriffs or state troopers for every 30 miles).

Teach kids properly when they're young, it may save their life or that of someone they know one day.

The problem with closed-minded people is their mouths are always open
