My Take On The Ending (Spoilers)

Just a theory, but I like it. The robot at the end looks over at Frank briefly. I'm assuming that after Frank was put into the nursing home, Hunter would have sold Robot to someone (after all, it must have been very expensive). What IF, that robot at the end was actually Frank's robot with his new owner...and the look the robot gave Frank was a a brief flicker of recognition? Maybe the reformat had left a tiny residual memory of Frank in Robot's brain? Not enough to remember much, but enough to just make him glance at Frank.

A sort of Robot Alzheimers maybe.

I hope so they could be friends again.

Do we know that Frank actually wiped robots memory? I thought perhaps he felt bad doing that when he knew he was loosing his own memory and he saw the robot as kind of a son figure. Maybe it was some kind of a plea deal that they wouldn't make him go to prison but he would have to move into a nursing home as he wasn't in his right mind.. I quite like that idea and that the robot still remembered him (although I guess the police would have reformatted him as a part of that deal). I guess it's not likely but I quite like that ending

I didn't get the impression that it actually was the same robot. More that Frank still feels some sense of attachment toward his old friend, and is inclined to see him, if only momentarily, in any robot of the same model.

Did the forgotten generations scream or go full of resignation, quietly protesting innocence?

That's what the filmmakers wanted us to think; that it may be the same robot remembering something, but we don't know. It's an intentionally ambiguous ending; the right interpretation is that everybody can interpret it the way he wants to.
