Don't get the ending? (SPOILER)

[spoiler alert, don't read if you haven't seen the movie]

So he gave away the location of the ROULETTE by his reaction at the Washington Monument, how could she be certain? This must be one of the lamest endings ever. Did anybody else think the ending has a low-budget feel to it?

I agree with both of you.....I was all set to give this film either and 8 or almost a 9....but after that ending it went down to a 5! it all seemed a bit too cheesy to me....and really made no sense???

reply

definitely cheesey. I didn't believe his wife was a terrorist agent....they made the ending bring up more complicated questions to how any of the isht that happen could even remotely occur (in the universe of this movie)

reply

Saddam Hussien use to give his bodyguards this test: men would run into a room and get the jump on the bodyguard. They would tell the bodyguard that they just assinated Saddam and if you don't pledge loyalty, we'll kill you too. Anyone who picked death became a new inner bodyguard for Saddam, and the others were killed.

It is more likely a test and more believable than a double trick.

reply

I agree 100% that the "twist" at the end was unnecessarry. It was a classic case of adding one more twist to be "cool."

reply

Yeah, totally unnecessary with the double twist in the end. Made no sense at all.

reply

So all the people he worked with and his wife were terrorists/baddies....oh please so unnecessary.

reply

I was very pissed at the way they handled the ending, there is no way in hell that they could know he would smile at the Washington monument & what is the entire government in on killing the Pres. come on . It was a fantastic movie up to that point, too bad I would have given it a 10, now it barely deserves an 7-8.

You stream it, I watch it, I spread the word = BUZZ 4 Films That Need It!

reply

To be honest, if there are that many inside people working on a plot to kill the potus, i'd just give up :D

reply

I actually loved the ending with the double twist. And the Tom Berenger character says over the radio something about taking apart the ER. I watched the end twice to hear it. I think they were planning to keep this going until hi smile gave away the info they needed. Cool stuff. Kind of clever.

reply

How could they know he'd smile at the monument, and how would that give the location away? Also the fact they were all in on it to kill the president is implausible. I'm all for a non happy ending, if they make sense. This ending was just ridiculous, the film is poorer because of it.

reply

I have to agree with you guys. The double twist at the end was so ridiculous and unbelievable, it ruined the whole movie for me. And I have to say usually I hate happy endings, but in this case it was a bad joke.

reply

Without the little twist at the end it would have been a totally forgettable movie, but with the twist, viewers will remember it. It may even, through home video, develop a small cult following. I'm putting it on my list of "guilty pleasures" and I won't be the only one.

reply

Yes you will.

reply

They didn't know he'd smile, but since he would obviously rather die than give up the location, they had one last trick up their sleeve to give them another shot at getting the location. Bit of a long-shot though, and it could have been scripted in smoother.

reply

It wasn't their last shot though - he was on his way to a mock E.R. which was the next stage in the plan - when the silly coincidence (there I agree) happened, the radio message was to dismantle the ER set-up.

reply

lol that double ending was so bad.

i mean what if he didnt reveal it by accident? would he go onto his imaginary job? when did they recruit his wife? lol the ending ruined it for me. The first twist was good enough. And it made up for some plot holes, like why terrorist would let an agent keep hold of a phone.

silly is just silly.

reply

Agreed. I would've preferred if they left the 2nd twist out.

reply

Agreed. I would have been happy with the first twist.

It took away a level of realism as well. How could they possibly have gotten his wife to kill him? Unless she was a terrorist all along, which stretches logic even further.

Yeah, it is like they took Buried, Saw, and From Paris With Love, and used all the plot twist to make a movie with such a big plot hole that you could drive a mack truck threw..

Not to mention that if all they wanted was the info on how to get to POTUS why not just give the guy a truth serum, why go threw this big elaborate scenario.

reply

I don't get it- what do you mean "unless" she was a terrorist all along. Did you really not understand, with no further explanation necessary, that she was, IN FACT, a terrorist (in deep cover) all along?

His "wife", as he believed her to be, never existed.

Come on man- get with the program.

reply

How do you know that? Perhaps it really was as simple as they offered her money.

reply

I know that because I watched the movie.

Money to suddenly turn into a cold-blooded killer and murder your significant other without so much as a hint of remorse, huh?

Ohhhhhhhhh-kaaaaaaaaaay, buh-bye now.

reply

I hate bad endings, life is already a bitch, why bad endings. this was going to be fine, and that last smile ,I understood as thinking: my god,I never left W.DC.I was n't in Maryland. That was what I thought about the smile. the movie was so great almost a 9...and with this bad ending, went to 4 or 3...it sucked a lot!!He showed tuffness and loyalty to the country, and got killed by his wife????strapped up...by his wife. Such a coward execution and humiliating!

Allways do it with an Architect

>>> can't agree more with all you guys; i never felt so *beep* up at the end of a movie as here! Before that end I enjoyed every little second of it, always thinking who 'n what was real or not. The story was really thrilling - until the first end i would give this movie 9/10; after that, knowing it was just a training, it already felt like I was the one who got pranked in stead of Stephen Dorff. After the bitter end, I really felt empty and I am still angry for the ones who are responsible for making a script like this - TO ME A PROOF OF UNBELIEVABLE INSANITY...

This movie could have cost less and achieve much higher ratings without the last 222 seconds... Or did I missed the bloopers???? <<<

My only question here is when people are saying how could they know he would smile at the monument? I am thinking that it was the final part of the test the reason is they drove past it on purpose and this would make jeremy with one last test to give up the information. However I dont get where they say continue on with the plan that kinda threw a wrench in it again. I can see why if the first part of my answer is correct that they killed him in the end because he did talk and they can now not trust him so kill him because he knows all the locations to the bunkers and would be easier to kill him then make him quit.

I agree with you. I also thought it was still part of the test, and because he kind of told his wife where the Roullete was they killed him. But no way the wife would kill him if she wasn't in on it. But it would be a better "2nd plot twist", I guess. For him to feel safe after so much stress and tell his wife and then get killed because they now knew they couldn't trust him. It would be WAY better.

what about the cops pulling over the car that turns out to be a police car ... not very smart...

reply

here's the problem.. all the terrorists were educated white professionals - GIMMIE A BREAK

reply

they didn't come across as terrorists at all that's my problem, there doesn't seem to be any context for who the heck they were or their motivation was as for the shock twist ending im sorry but i really saw a twist coming as soon as he got in the ambulance .. i thought the twist might have been a bit different though, either he was a "terrorist" or something similar to the actually ending

reply

I actually was waiting for his wife to do what she did. I watched the movie Abandoned recently and what happened in this movie also happened there. So I actually was expecting it to happen, because they were all so happy and so cute together and everything was going to end so well. I mean, after that whole movie how could we even expect a good ending? It just wasn't meant to be.
But still, I kind of hoped that it would all be part of the test or somthing, but it doesn't make sense.

reply

the ending ruined the film, I rather happy ending
we do not his wife, she might can be terrorist.
But happened too sudden and more questions came out.

reply

The ending with the double twist was nothing short of perfect! It was groundBRAKEing!

reply

I agree, I loved it

reply

Yeah, we never really understood who all these bad guys where. Where they "Patriots" who thought saving the country meant executing a coup d'etat? or were they working with terrorists or where they part of a hidden Confederacy rising again? Actually that last part would have been cool had they worked that in there.

reply

I thought that is was unbelievable and kind of an insult to any rational person.

reply

I think it was an interesting ending - EXCEPT for the massive plot gap of him just, out of the blue, volunteering that info without any prodding. What were they going to do? Just drive around for hours, hoping he would inadvertently tell? What were the odds that he would say what he did?

It would have made much more sense if she would have casually asked about it, especially during a lighthearted, romantic moment. Then if he still wouldn't tell, well, I guess they would have to resort to plan "C" (or would it be "D").

Anyway, a nice double twist - ruined by that sloppy detail.

reply

the ending it made no sense at all, why would she act in front of them that she didn't know and was paid to go along, then in the van know about it. she wasn't working for them he was.

Everyone is never looking at domestic terrorists, has anyone looked at American history of presidential assassinations, and the partys responsible for them?
