I remember "Do the Right Thing" was pretty secretive, too, when it was first made.
I remember Premiere magazine published a completely inaccurate synopsis for the film before it premiered at Cannes. They put out their "Summer Movie Preview" issue in May 1989, and described "DtRT" as follows: "Spike Lee's ("School Daze") new film centers around an Italian-American pizzeria owner named Sal (Danny Aiello), who operates his restaurant among the friendly locals in a predominantly black neighborhood in Brooklyn. When some mob heavies try to move in and muscle Sal, the neighbohood comes to Sal's aid."
