Did John (Boss), get away with it after taking the money back in the end

Did he take the money back and say he managed to talk one of the other men out of running away with it; hence he brought the money back to the depot?

Or did he take it back to the depot to hand himself in, as now that he had done it (the crime) he was a “complete man”?

One of those disappointing endings. He can't talk his way out this as Chris gave his name to the police way before the heist.

He didn't do it for the money, just to change who he was/was seen as.
People wouldn't take him for granted anymore.

How can you tell if someone's a compulsive liar? I mean, assuming their pants aren't on fire?

reply

I know that, but thanks anyway.

The second one. That's pretty much what he was ranting about the last 5 minutes. He just doesn't care. He was sick of the boring, predictable person that was him, and he couldn't have cared less whether he got arrested or killed in the process.

So seeing as in the end, he both survived *and* actually got away with the robbery, bringing the money back to the people it belongs to is a logical choice for him, since it wasn't about taking it away from them in the first place. A consisent (and non-disappointing) ending to the story according to the character portrait that was built, I would say.
