Is it possible to plagiarize real events?

Assuming the writer was classing this as an original bit of writing is it possible to plagiarize a true story? As clearly, most of this was taken from the real life event the Securitas depot robbery.

In that event the manager was the key who was married with one kid. Same as in Inside Men.

Joey, I'm guessing they can plagiarize from real life events. There's a film drama called Boy A starring Andrew Garfield and the writer claimed it was all original and not at all connected to the real life case of the Jamie Bulger murder case that shocked Britain in 1993.
The film does have a different victim (a school age girl replacing 2 year old Jamie) but it pretty much is exactly like the case and circumstances of the case.
Of course it is different but on release EVERYONE thought it was implying a sympathetic look towards the two young boys who murdered Jamie.

I have a much bigger problem when a movie says "based on true events" when in fact the true events are vastly different to those portrayed in the movie.

I much prefer a drama such as this which obviously was inspired by the 2006 Securitas Cash Depot heist of £53m and contains many similarities. However it does not claim (as far as I am aware)to be based on real life events. It just lets the viewer draw their own comparisons.
