What an AWFUL ending!!

I actually really liked the movie until I saw the terrible Romeo & Juliet ending. Come on Eric! Ugh I am so depressed now...it would of been such a good movie too.

I agree. I was resigned to Michael's dying, and I though it was good, actually, that they could both be together, in a way. But that last bit really really pissed me off.

Three on a match. The movie had a lot going for it until the end.

For God's sake, she was a NURSE--why didn't she check for vital signs? It seemed like a very intelligent film up until then. Terrible ending.

Signatures annoy me.

You say she was a nurse but I don't remember seeing that she had medical training. I could well be wrong but I thought she was just providing hospice care to the dying gypsy girl.

Speaking of that, I think it can be argued that even if she was a nurse she would have been fooled because of the curse on her...via the ring. It's also worth noting that she identified with the girl, wore a ring like the girl, and died in the end too.

If you think about the brother coming to see his sister at the end of the movie...he removes the ring from her body as if her leukemia were a curse as well. And that may be why the mother wouldn't visit her even at the end.

I'm not defending the ending. Rather, I think even apart from third rate stereotyping, the gypsy curse subplot dictated the unfortunate Romeo & Juliet ending. They shouldn't have gone to production without rewriting that...especially given the strong performances and direction.

I agree I don't think she was a nurse. I think her taking up hospice work, maybe not even paid for, at least not by all, she counterbalanced her other dominatrix work with it.

Though I disagree about the ending being awful. It was a tragic ending to a poignant love relationship gone bad. I also thought it was realistic considering that they both betrayed each other in the deepest way they could to each other. Him lying. Her leaving.

I don't believe there was any actual curse.

Logically it was dumb. She probably should've checked his pulse. She only checked to see if he was breathing (she put her hand in front of his mouth to feel for breath). Also, I've been choked out before and have seen many people choked unconscious(from jiujitsu), you just wake up like 10-20 seconds later. Probably not the same , but I think she could've been a little more patient seeing as how its her lover. But yeah she was acting on emotion.

Plotwise it was stupid as well for him to wake up. That was just a lame twist that was pretty predictable once I saw her look at the rope. It would have been better if they both just died.

Questionable end to a questionable movie.

Emotionally, I hated the tragic ending, and I would have been fine with this film having a more prosaic ending and staying more in the realm of character drama. But Eric Schaeffer made a bold choice, I think; and the fact that it was emotionally devastating to watch makes it hard to fault him.

My actual quibble with the ending could be called more of a nitpick, but did kind of bother me: Sophie rode up on one of those rented bikes, but then jumped off it and started running from door to door. The only reason to do that is for cinematic purposes, that unfortunately people don't think it "looks cool" for characters to bike around places (so as a result, for example, on post-apocalyptic TV shows like Revolution or The Walking Dead, no one ever seems to ride bikes despite the practicality of doing so instead of walking). She would have made so much better time continuing on the bike as she checked various warehouse doors.
