Eric Schaeffer doesn't deserve the jibe that he is so egotistical

I can see how some of his other films might suggest that to some, but his clearly semi-autobiographical portrayal here of a declining career, depression, deep insecurities that express themselves in pathological self-hatred...all should disabuse any careful viewer of this idea.

Or even just the one scene, where she says "if you weighed ten pounds less, I would have *beeped* you by now". He responds, devastated, "that's the meanest thing anyone's ever said to me". I would invite anyone to contemplate whether a truly narcissistic actor with a swollen self-regard would write that line of dialogue for the character he was playing.

Agreed. I found his character deeply sensitive and vulnerable and open if not occasionally cocky. After watching this (beautiful) movie more than once I found it hard to think this character wasn't close to his own true persona. Maybe that's why this movie goes by so fast. My only quibble is the need to juxtapose his domme gf against a dying sick girl. It felt like he chose to dumb down and not trust his audience.

Not a perfect movie but absolutely earnest and very well shot.
